Ten Students Win PhD Scholarships tenable at WACCI

The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) is delighted to announce the 10 winners of the PhD scholarships for January 2010 enrollment.

The successful candidates are:

• Teyiou Benoξt Joseph Batieno, Institut de l'environnement et de Recherches Agricoles (INERA), Burkina Faso

• Joseph Adjebeng-Danquah, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI), Ghana

• Uzoma Chizoba Okechukwu, National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan, Nigeria

• Alice Jelimo Kosgei, Embu Agricultural Staff Training (E.A.S.T) College, Kenya

• Mahamane Nasser Laouali, CERRA, Maradi Research Station, Institut National de Recherches Agronomique au Niger (INRAN), Niger

• Umar Muhammad Lawan, Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadou Bello University, Nigeria

• Tandzi Ngoune Liliane, the Seed Laboratory, Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD), Cameroon

• Mafouasson Apala Hortense Noelle, Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD), Cameroon

• Ernest Baafi, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Crop Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), Ghana

• Souleymane Oumarou, Institut National de Recherches Agronomique au Niger (INRAN), Niger

Two students are to be funded by the Generation Challenge Programme (GCP). The students will commence their five-year plant breeding programme in mid-January 2010. They are expected to undertake two years of academic study at the University of Ghana, followed by three years of field research at their respective research institutes or universities in their home countries.
